I am doing a presentation on photography and creativity next week and this image came to mind because it was one where I was just driving around Saguaro National Monument and I could see it in my minds eye.  “If I just had a really iconic shot of a Saguaro”  I thought “I could give it a posterized false color look that would be really cool.”  Well it turned out I had already taken the photo so it was just a matter of doing some post processing.  I can’t even tell you exactly how I got here though I think it had something to do with Nik software and solarization.  But this is how I define inspiration.  When an idea just comes to you from out of nowhere and you make it a reality.

Well, it’s been a slow week for photography so I thought I might as well reach back into the Tucson file since I have so much good material there.  This closeup of a saguaro cactus was shot…where else?…at Saguaro National Monument.  It was early Sunday morning and I really felt like I was worshiping at United Church of the Saguaro…Just me a couple cactus wrens and a few bicyclists.  I’ve added a lot of sharpening to bring out the needles and their shadows and just a slight vignette.

Well, this was a tough decision.  I’ve been shooting all week in Tucson and have many good images I could share.  This one I just felt was the most successful overall so it gets the nod for image of the week.  I shot many varieties of  agave at the Tucson Botanical Gardens which was one of my favorite destinations of the week.  It is a small space at six acres but packed with cactus, succulents and flowers of many kinds.  It also has a butterfly garden but I was not allowed to bring my tripod in and there were school groups visiting so I decided to focus on the flora.
