One of the gifts of photography is that it helps me to see things in a new way. How many of us, when we look at a lilac bush, see the individual blossoms or the tiny buds waiting to burst into bloom? This image was taken with my 100mm macro lens with a canon D250 closeup filter attached. The biggest challenge in getting the shot was waiting for the wind to pause long enough to get a still shot. I have also been experimenting with bracketing my f-stops when shooting macro shots like this. I used to just do one soft at f 2.8 and one sharp at f 16. In this case I tried several settings in between. It turned out that I like this one shot at f 5.6 better than either the 2.8 which blurred everything but the small blossom at the center of focus, or the f 16 in which most of the blossoms were sharp. Thanks to Charles Needle for that tip. Bracket those exposures when shooting closeups!
