This week’s photography field trip took me back to the botanic gardens in Albuquerque. Though the only things in bloom were inside the greenhouse there were plenty of winter textures and patterns to photograph and I had my usual fun time with the koi in the Japanese Gardens. But the best of a good day had to be this calla lily in the Mediterranean greenhouse. The flower itself had a little bruising that I just could not manage to photoshop out but the wonderful texture of the leaves, the curl at the end of the flower and the echoing curl of the upper leaf all kept it in the keeper file if not quite portfolio material. In post processing I again turned to Nik Color Efex Pro where I added the Detail Extractor Filter, a Brilliance/Warmth filter and finally a vignette to help tone down the busyness on the left edge. I was pretty happy with the result. I hope you agree.
