I was busy trying to photograph my neighbor’s grape hyacinths when this bee happened along. First pollinator I have seen this year.

I was busy trying to photograph my neighbor’s grape hyacinths when this bee happened along. First pollinator I have seen this year.

One of the perks of my tiny beach house is its proximity to Azalea Park in Brookings. I stopped by this week to see if the Calla Lilies were in bloom yet. Two weeks ago they were just starting to come out. There were only a few in full bloom this time but a few were all I needed. It had just started to rain and if you look closely you can see a few raindrops along the edges. There were also a lot of grape hyacinths and a few rhododendrons starting to come out. Can’t wait to what’s out next time I’m in town. I added a couple of textures to bring out a little bit of color.

The March lion is showing no signs of giving way to the lamb. My Camelia bush is in full bloom yet has been assaulted more than once by periods of snow. I do hope spring gets the upper hand in April. This was shot with my new Lensbaby Double Glass II with a macro filter attached. I was interested to see that you can almost make out the structure of the snow crystals. Next time I will add a few more macro filters and focus on the snow.

I could have posted another sunset but I thought it was time for a change. After several weeks of nasty weather the sea lions were enjoying a chance to bask in the sun in Brookings last week.

It’s been a long cold winter this year. I have seen crocuses bloom in late January but this year they have taken their sweet time. This was shot with my new Lensbaby Double Glass II lens and a texture was added to the background.

I’m starting to feel like a one trick pony here but my third mad dash to Bookings between storms to look at a potential beach house has proved to be the charm. Offer made and accepted and now one or two more trips to take care of paper work and I will at least have a different venue for viewing the sunset… and maybe some free time to photograph something else.

Reaching back into the archives again. This flower was hanging on from last fall at North Mountain Park. The image was made on January 16 and processed on February 24. I have a new Lensbaby toy this week so hope to get around to some new images. Weather permitting of course.

I abandoned the 365 day project last week because it was not bringing me joy and it was not making me a better photographer. But in the breathing space that followed I neglected to take any pictures last week so I decided to go back into the early weeks of the project to find something worthy of sharing. This image of star anise and cinnamon sticks was shot on January 5.

It was another glorious weekend at the coast as the search for the perfect beach house continues. I bagged the 365 day project last week because it was not bringing me joy and it was not making me a better photographer. And that meant I got to use my telephoto lens to get this shot.

A busy week and more wind had me grabbing whatever was at hand to check off the box that I did my image of the day. I did like the way these bottles came out though hindsight says I should have arranged them a little differently with respect to the background.
