I always enjoy looking of intimate scenes at the marina. The tidiness of this tiedown rope made for a perfect graphic black and white.

It dawned on me Sunday that I had not taken many pictures during the past week and I wondered what I was going to do about image of the week. But in looking back at images from my beach walk on Friday I was happy to find this semi-decent one. The colors were very muted due to overcast skies so I decided it would look better as a black and white. I never thought I had much use for the wide angle lens babies but that sweet 35 is really growing on me.

I was hard pressed to come up with anything this week as I was dodging raindrops on Sunday and completely gave up to the pouring rain on Monday. I did manage about five minutes at the harbor between showers. Normally I like the colors on fishing floats but in this case the boat in the background was kind of dull and I thought celebrating the textures and tones might work better.

I came to the coast planning to have a full on photography weekend but I stupidly left my tripod at home. I had a bit of adventure finding the Oregon Redwoods trail because there is no sign at the turn going in, only coming out. So, I got to explore about 20 miles of forest road I would not have otherwise. But, when I finally got to the Redwoods trail the salient feature were the trillium just freshly opened. I added a couple of textures to darken the edges and let the flower be the star.

One of the perks of my tiny beach house is its proximity to Azalea Park in Brookings. I stopped by this week to see if the Calla Lilies were in bloom yet. Two weeks ago they were just starting to come out. There were only a few in full bloom this time but a few were all I needed. It had just started to rain and if you look closely you can see a few raindrops along the edges. There were also a lot of grape hyacinths and a few rhododendrons starting to come out. Can’t wait to what’s out next time I’m in town. I added a couple of textures to bring out a little bit of color.

I could have posted another sunset but I thought it was time for a change. After several weeks of nasty weather the sea lions were enjoying a chance to bask in the sun in Brookings last week.

I’m starting to feel like a one trick pony here but my third mad dash to Bookings between storms to look at a potential beach house has proved to be the charm. Offer made and accepted and now one or two more trips to take care of paper work and I will at least have a different venue for viewing the sunset… and maybe some free time to photograph something else.

It was another glorious weekend at the coast as the search for the perfect beach house continues. I bagged the 365 day project last week because it was not bringing me joy and it was not making me a better photographer. And that meant I got to use my telephoto lens to get this shot.

I managed the first of what I hope to be many trips to the coast this year. It was warm and sunny in Brookings, unlike the Rogue Valley. Shot with the Lensbaby Sweet 50.
