Day 96 – Wabi Sabi

WabiSabi

As you might imagine as I approach the end of the project I am running out of ideas, not to mention enthusiasm. I had purchased these Dutch Iris at Trader Joe’s last week but before I got around to photographing them they curled up and died. But I thought they might be interesting to photograph on my new light pad and with a well chosen texture I found the result rather pleasing in a perfectly imperfect sort of way.

And from John O’Donohue:

A person’s beauty is sophisticated and sacred and is far beyond image, appearance or personality.

Day 90 – Sunflower Abstract

Sunflower

So I went by Petco the other day to pick up puppy supplies and figured I might as well grab some flowers from Trader Joe while I was there. I really like the abstract look of these dancing sunflower petals and the added texture just added to the painterly look.

Today’s thought from John O’Donohue:

In its encounter with us beauty invites our dignity and graciousness.

Day 32 – Tulip with fake raindrops

TulipwRaindrops

I love photographing tulips after the rain. But if you live in Southern Oregon, you know that we haven’t had much rain lately. However, I sat in on some Photoshop classes this morning and I learned how to fake the raindrops using an overlay. I’m not really a fan of  fakery in Photoshop but this is more in the  line of photographic enhancement for the sake of creating art. Hope you enjoy.

And this from John O’Donohue:

Music brings great beauty into our lives. In the way that it arrives, lingers, and vanishes, if offers us a clue to the eternal nature of beauty.

Day 11 – Tulip

I did find a couple of tulips in bloom yesterday but the background was an ugly concrete driveway. So I went to town on this one to try to get some color in the top and then decided to go all out artsy with a pretty background frame.

From Stephen David Ross:

But beauty interrupts restrictions in every place and thing.

Fern

After keeping and eagle eye on the weather for a month I finally got a break on the same day I didn’t have to be anywhere so that I could escape to Jedediah Smith State Park to kick off the Redwoods National and State Parks project. It was a good start but I wish I had been able to stay a little longer. Maybe next time.  I did get a few ideas on how to approach the project and look forward to the months ahead and many trips to the redwoods. And here is the art piece I made to highlight some of my favorite things from my hikes that day.

Acorn Woodpecker

AcornWoodpecker

I’m running way behind with last week’s image of the week. I didn’t have any new images in the first place so I had to go back to the previous week’s visit to the cemetery where the Acorn Woodpeckers were abundant. Then I had to find time to do the art piece which finally happened in fits and starts between all the other activities on my calendar. But here it is at last and now I can go out and do this week’s photography with a clear conscience.

Varied Thrush

VariedThrush

I went to the Ashland Cemetery looking for Stellar’s Jays but they were not in residence. However there were lots of robins so I brought out the big lens to see what I could do with them and found this guy hanging out with them. On consulting my bird books I learned that the Varied Thrush is more likely to be found in the mountains. This one apparently came down to the valley to get warm or find food not covered with snow. For me a great subject and new one to check off my life list.  Here is what I did with him in the digital darkroom:

Catkins

Catkins

Well, this past week was not very conducive to nature photography, unless you like snow, which I don’t. So, I had to reach back to a walk in Lithia Park the week before when I captured this nice image of some catkins hanging over the creek. I’m hoping to get out and find some more birds tomorrow so wish me luck.

And here is the art piece that goes with this one. In all honesty I’m not sure this was such a good idea but maybe if I get some images to work with a little earlier in the week I won’t feel so pressured to get an art piece done AND post the image of the week.
