Day 88 – Autumn Leaves

AutumnLeaves

I had good intentions of taking a camera walk today but it got so windy I knew it would not turn out well. Now the wind has died down some but I’m all out of the mood. So, I reverted to my walk in Lithia Park on October 15. I’m sad to see that many trees have already lost their leaves. But they were still going strong ten or twelve days ago. This was captured with the Sweet 50. In post I added a high pass filter and sharpening and a vignette to help the main leaves to stand out from the background.

Day 87 – Sheep Barn

SheepBarn2

On the coast road from Sutherlin to Reedsport is this barn which I have photographed a number of times. Sometimes the sheep are present, sometimes not. But the fall color made it particularly scenic this time. I had the Velvet 85 on the camera so I just went with it. It was pretty soft out of the camera so I thought to give it an impressionistic look but in scrolling through Topaz Studio, I came across a filter called clear day which actually sharpened things up a bit for a look I really love.

Day 80 – Bear Creek ala Cezanne

BearCreek

Since I am starting a week long photo expedition tomorrow I thought I could get away with pulling from the archives for one more day. This one was taken with the Trio 28 at North Mountain Park the other day. I bumped up the vibrance and saturation then took it into Topaz Studio for an impressionist look. I aways seem to go for Cezanne or Van Gogh. Today it was Cezanne.

Day 78 – Gone to Seed

Seedy

So today was another busy day but I had stuck the M100 with the Trio28 in my briefcase “just in case”. I decided I needed to get a few more steps in and was driving past North Mountain Park so decided I might as well stop and do a camera walk. I was fascinated with these flowers that have gone to seed with the fall colors in the background. Unfortunately I had the camera set at high ISO and forgot to change it so the images came out kind of grainy. So I decided to just throw on a texture that would mask the grain and also bring out the warm autumn colors I was going for.

Day 77 – Maple Seeds

Seeds

Well, it’s a good thing I took lot’s of pictures yesterday because today was a busy day and now it’s raining.Maybe there will be raindrop pictures in my future. We’ll see. I could wish that this one had just a bit more depth of field for more focus on the right side of the seed couplet but I do love the beautiful blur of the red leaves of the Japanese Maple trees and the subtle bokah. I did add a high pass filter and some sharpening to get as much detail as possible in the seeds. I also added a texture to create a little more interest in the background. Oh, yes, this was shot with the Sweet50 on the M3.

Day 76 – Leaves

1_Leaves

I decided to forego the grower’s market today in favor of a walk in Lithia Park. So glad I did as the Park is pretty close to peak right now. Even the Japanese Garden which has been peaking closer to November 1st lately. Plenty of color there now this year though.  I also decided I have refrained from using the Sweet 50 long enough and it proved to be the right tool for the job where fall color is concerned. My problem was getting things focused where I wanted them. This one turned out pretty well. I did have to bump up the exposure some. I added a high pass filter and added clarity and vibrance. It still didn’t look right to me so I nudged the brightness and contrast and now I’m very happy with it.

Day 70 – Fading Sunflower

Fading-Sunflower

This week has been busting my chops, meetings, classes, volunteer activities. All good, just too busy for photography. So, I’m dipping back into yesterday’s trip to the Grower’s Market with the Burnside. This Sunflower had seen better days but still had a lot of character. I had the lens set to create an in camera vignette but took it even further in post processing and added a texture which added even more darkening at the corners. I also added detail especially in the flower to make those edges and ridges snap. I just got some new Lensbaby toys today so hope to be able to play with them tomorrow.

Day 69 – Pears

Pears

I took the Burnside mounted on the R with me to Growers Market today. The booths are starting to thin out I’m afraid. I always love it when the growers go to the effort to create an artistic display. In post I added a high pass filter and bumped up the exposure just a little. I had the Burnside set to create an in camera vignette so that was already there.

Day 68 – Leaves on Stump

LeavesonStump

Here’s another one from my camera walk with the edge 35 yesterday. There is a spot along the greenway where a tree was cut down about six months ago and they just left the log pieces there to rot. I was thinking it might be fun to photograph a leaf on one of the stumps and even picked one up and played with it but felt kind of guilty for staging the shot. Then I looked over on the other side of the path and here were these two leaves right where nature put them.

The stump was kind of washed out so I added a vignette to darken the edges. It was still pretty pale and boring so I added  a brown texture that gave me just the effect I was looking for.

Day 66 – Autumn Leaves

Leaves

This is another one from yesterday’s walk on the Greenway. Actually it was captured before I ever left the neighborhood. It was carefully composed so the white bark showed through and the street behind did not. This again was taken with the Sol45 on the M3. I did a little inventory yesterday and found that the Sweet50 is way over represented at 27 out of 65 images posted, the Trio is next at 11, the Sol 45 with 7 and the Velvets split at 6 each. All of which means I’ll be working with the edge 35 and the Burnside next week.

So, in post processing, adding clarity was the main thing, then I added a slight vignette to make the main leaf stand out more.
