Pomegranate

Pom2

It has been incredibly windy this week so I was forced into the tiny studio for most of my daily images. Eight days in and I’m already wondering why I did this to myself. But I’m hoping as we get into spring and better weather and better subjects things will go more smoothly. It’s really about making photography a priority which is hard to do when other alligators are nipping at my heels. Anyway, this pomegranate was shot using my Velvet 28 which, though wider than I usually prefer, focuses as close as two inches which makes it perfect for this kind of closeup shot.

Day 46 – Lemon

Lemon2

So, I’m taking a water color class through OLLI and I spent all morning working on my homework for that and Wednesday’s I spend the afternoon at the Genealogy Library working on volunteer projects. So, I decided to just dip into the archives and see what I could find to process in a unique way. This lemon was a little too “real” in it’s natural out of the camera format so I gave it a treatment in Topaz Impressions and like the painterly look.

Today from Julia Cameron:

The act of making art is a direct path to God.

Day 19 – Mandarin Orange

MandarinOrange

Still feeling a little xenophobic about going to a public place to photograph but I’m getting a little bored with the neighbor’s flowers so thought I would try some closeups of citrus this morning. I started with a lemon but decided I liked the Mandarin Orange a little better.

Today’s quote is from Robert Henri:

Art is simply a result of expression during right feeling… Any material will do. After all, the object is not to make are, but to be in the wonderful state which makes are inevitable.

Day 8 – Mandarin Oranges

Oranges

Well, this one was a longer time coming than I had planned. I had a bowl of mandarin oranges out on the patio and they caught my eye so I grabbed the M100 which still had the macro lens on it from yesterday and clicked off four shots. Many textures and a few trips through Topaz later, I finally came up with something I at least didn’t hate. I did crowd the top edge of the frame a little too much but I wanted to capture the citrus in the table cloth too so there you go.

Today’s quote is from Roderick McIver’s book: Art as a Way of Life. The quote is from Andrew Wyeth:

What I was after is what you get sugaring off maple from the maple tree. You keep boiling it down until you have the essence of purity.

Day 69- Morels

Morels

You may not find these beautiful but today was my third time up to bat this month and I thought I was about to strike out. So finding three in the eleventh hour was certainly beautiful to me. Now that I know where they are popping up I may try one more time.

From John O’Donohue:

Beauty is the inconceivable made so intimate that it illuminates our hearts.

Day 65 – Eggs

Eggs

Here’s something a little different. I’m thinking in terms of the beauty of simplicity. Actually, I’m all out of flowers and my hydrangea is just on the verge of blooming. Meanwhile, I have been working on my still life chops. I see this one printed large and hanging on the wall of a breakfast restaurant.

And from John O’Donohue:

The heart is the place where beauty arrives; here is where it can be felt, recognized and shared.

Day 69 – Pears

Pears

I took the Burnside mounted on the R with me to Growers Market today. The booths are starting to thin out I’m afraid. I always love it when the growers go to the effort to create an artistic display. In post I added a high pass filter and bumped up the exposure just a little. I had the Burnside set to create an in camera vignette so that was already there.

Day 56 – Apples

Apples

I’m getting into a nice rhythm of shooting a day ahead which takes some of the stress off. I found these apples at the Grower’s market yesterday. I was touring the marked with the Sol45 mounted on the M3. In post I added some clarity and vibrance and a light room preset which helped to brighten the image. Then I added a texture which I felt mainly gave a richness to the colors as well as a little hint of an edge.
