Here’s another view of our beautiful Mount McLaughlin.
Today’s quote is from Nietzsche:
Beauty triumphs over the suffering inherent in life.

Bored with flowers? Here’s a nice landscape for you. I struck out again on the mushroom front but Mt. McLoughlin was looking awesome. I’m wondering if my Uncle Henry built this fence as this was his families property back in the day.
From John O’Donohue:
Nothing opens up the mind like the glimpse of new possibility.

Here’s something a little different. I happened to glance out the window around sunset last evening and saw this rainbow shooting straight up into the sky. Rainbows always seem to convey a message of hope to me.
In today’s reading John O’Donohue invites us to consider the wind and offers this lovely image:
One of the loveliest images of earthly movement is how a bird plays among the high geographies of wind force, soaring, sliding and balancing on its invisible hills and waves.

The orchards have finally caught up with the ornamentals. I almost waited too long. Last week no blossoms at all. This week already leafing out. Next week boring green trees.
Today, those famous lines from Keats:
Beauty is Truth, Truth Beauty – that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

Here is another one from yesterday’s stroll in the park. Tulip tree reflecting in the lower duck pond.
So, my new strategy on the quotes is to just read the next section in John O’Donohue’s book on Beauty until I find something I like. So from now on just assume the quote is from John O’Donohue unless otherwise noted.
Often it beckons us from afar but hold us off until our hearts become more refined and receptive; then beauty draws us into her mysterious invisible embrace.

So, today was mostly a travel day and it mostly rained. Though I have to say if you have a chance to drive the road from Sutherlin to Reedsport along the Umpqua River the colors are just stunning right now. I’m hoping the weather will be a little better when I go home.
In any case I stopped in Depoe Bay and played a little with some Wind Socks on display and the sweet 50 but I didn’t get anything I really loved. So when I got settled in my hotel room I stepped out on the balcony to take some pictures of the beautiful view and decided to play with the Omni again. One of it’s attachments is called the rainbow filter. I still can’t get it to do exactly what I want but I liked the effect on this image and the lone beach walker. To process it I took it in to Nik Color Efex Pro to add detail because the clouds were very washed out. I also bumped up the vibrance and saturation to emphasize the rainbow effect a little more. I thought about adding a texture but realized I don’t have any textures on my laptop and I forgot to bring the portable hard drive that has them along. So, short of downloading some onto the laptop it looks like I won’t be using any textures this trip.

Since I am starting a week long photo expedition tomorrow I thought I could get away with pulling from the archives for one more day. This one was taken with the Trio 28 at North Mountain Park the other day. I bumped up the vibrance and saturation then took it into Topaz Studio for an impressionist look. I aways seem to go for Cezanne or Van Gogh. Today it was Cezanne.

The clouds broke as I was traveling south so I decided to pull off the freeway for awhile and see what I could find to photograph. Plenty to photograph, not many places to pull off the road. I ended up with only two images for my effort. I decided to give this one a grunge effect in Topaz Studio 2. I was so tired when I got home I didn’t get this uploaded until today so I’m still playing catch up and hope I will get back on track soon.

Another beautiful sunset at the coast this week. In fact this one was right up there with the best I’ve ever seen. From the time this was shot as the sun was dipping below the horizon until about an hour later the sky just kept getting more and more colorful. I debated whether to post this one or one of the more colorful ones but I thought this one was more interesting with the sillouettes of the old piers.

I’ve been trying to catch up on processing my images from the coast project. This one was shot in May close to sunset using a strong neutral density filter to slow down the shutter speed and blur the action of the waves. Looking forward to another trip to the coast next week.
