I drove by this clock many times before I caught on to the fact the all the numbers were 1. Not sure why or what the significance is. The clock graces a former gas station turned Physical Therapy office and appears to keep the correct time if you can get past the ones. I edited… Continue reading Day 61- Clock

Day 60 – Peppers
The colorful peppers were definitely the stars of the show at the Grower’s Market yesterday. I did the usual Nik tricks in post processing and added a border just because. I think there was also a smart sharpen filter in there somewhere.
Day 59 – Bluejay
I’ve been watching these Bluejay’s dance around in my parents yard all summer. I finally got out the big lens and started chasing them around yesterday. I think the score was Bluejay’s 10 and Jeanne 1 but I finally got one to hold still long enough to get a pictures. My research indicates that this… Continue reading Day 59 – Bluejay
Day 58 – Strawberries
I happened into the garden the other day when my brother had gotten up from picking strawberries to move the irrigation water. I thought the bowl of freshly picked berries and the colorful knee pad made for a nice image. In post processing I went all the way with detail extraction, then added saturation and… Continue reading Day 58 – Strawberries
Day 57 – Pinwheel
My Brother has these colorful pinwheels in his garden to scare away the birds. The trick is to capture them in a way that you can detect motion but the colors aren’t all blurred together. I might not have noticed them if the wind hadn’t been messing with my flower photography. Serendipity. Post processing was… Continue reading Day 57 – Pinwheel
Day 56 – Sunflower with Bee
The Sunflowers are so pretty this time of year. And despite concerns about colony collapse the bees were a buzzing so I didn’t have to wait long for one to show up. Post processing was a light detail extraction and a slight darken/lighten center. The flower was already saturated and warm enough.
Day 55 – Oak Leaves
Here’s another one for the leaf collection. These oak leaves were intertwined with a Japanese maple. In post I used the flat detail extractor, brilliance/warmth, and darken/lighten center. I finished it off with a smart sharpen filter in Photoshop.
Day 54 – Shadow
OK, I admit it, I am reaching here. It’s not so much that I have been lazy as I have been busy doing other things. So yes, it is time to get out and shoot some new material. What this ended up being was an exercise in post processing as what compelled me to trip… Continue reading Day 54 – Shadow
Day 53 – Mailboxes
It’s been awhile since I’ve seen old school apartment mailboxes like these and I was especially happy to see that they actually had mail in them. The mailboxes had been painted the same green color as the building so I thought a black and white treatment might be best. I chose Topaz BW effects for… Continue reading Day 53 – Mailboxes
Day 52 – Railroad District
I took a stroll through Ashland’s Railroad District yesterday. In my youth it was the low rent district but now that the trains don’t run anymore it has become quite trendy. There is still some interesting grunge around if you look hard enough. I often wonder about the ethics of photographing someone else’s art and… Continue reading Day 52 – Railroad District
