It’s been awhile since I’ve seen old school apartment mailboxes like these and I was especially happy to see that they actually had mail in them. The mailboxes had been painted the same green color as the building so I thought a black and white treatment might be best. I chose Topaz BW effects for… Continue reading Day 53 – Mailboxes
Day 52 – Railroad District
I took a stroll through Ashland’s Railroad District yesterday. In my youth it was the low rent district but now that the trains don’t run anymore it has become quite trendy. There is still some interesting grunge around if you look hard enough. I often wonder about the ethics of photographing someone else’s art and… Continue reading Day 52 – Railroad District
Day 51 – Grunge Abstract with Mirror
Here’s another one from the rusty grunge of my brother’s car collection. I loved the shadow of the mirror so made that the focus but also wanted to include the lines and colors. On this one I edited out some trees in the sky that didn’t really add anything to the composition. Then I was… Continue reading Day 51 – Grunge Abstract with Mirror
Day 50 – Rose
This Rose was part of a bouquet of flowers. I did the usual basic processing in Nik CEP. Love the colors but it was shot indoors at high ISO so there is a bit of noise.
Day 49 – Peppers
Yep, I’m really milking that last trip to the Grower’s Market this week. But if you know what’s been going on around here you’ll understand. I did the usual processing on this one. Mostly I just love the colors in this one.
Day 48 – Heirloom Tomatoes
Yep, I squeezed one more out of this week’s trip to the Grower’s Market. I just fell in love with these beautiful heirloom tomatoes. I thought I didn’t get the shot but with a little cropping and post processing I’m liking how it turned out.
Day 47 – Rasperries
Here’s another keeper from the Farmer’s Market. The usual processing with appropriate tweaks.
Day 46 – Dahlias
I keep thinking I am going to run out of things to shoot at the Grower’s Market. But every week there is something new, like these amazingly beautiful Dahlias. A light touch on the detail extraction, a little brilliance warmth to bring out the colors and the yellows in the main flower, and a darken/lighten… Continue reading Day 46 – Dahlias
Day 45 – Ducks
I visited North Mountain Park in Ashland for the first time yesterday. What a great place for nature photographers. From the butterfly garden to the wetlands ponds to beautiful Bear Creek there is a lot of variety and a lot of wildlife habitat. Looking forward to going back with the “big girl” camera. I did… Continue reading Day 45 – Ducks
Day 44 – Smudge Pot with Pears
I’m surprised at the number of smudge pots still to be found sitting around the orchards though they have not been legal for years. I remember spring mornings from my childhood when the skies around here would just be black with smoke from the smudging, (i.e. burning oil in these pots to keep the fruit… Continue reading Day 44 – Smudge Pot with Pears
