Lithia Park in my hometown of Ashland, Oregon was recently voted among the top 25 city parks in the country. I don’t know who gets to decide these things but it is a nice park. I hesitated to post this image because it is somewhat cliche where Ashland is concerned. Stand on one of the… Continue reading Day 23 – Lithia Park

Day 22 – Japanese Maple
I took a camera walk with the EOS-M through Litha Park yesterday, the first of many I hope. I was especially fascinated by the backlighting on the leaves and seedpods of the Japanese Maples in the Japanese gardens. I’m also going to have to make the trip with the “big girl” camera one of these… Continue reading Day 22 – Japanese Maple
Day 21 – Fence
I’m getting to that point in the project where I am beginning to wonder if this was such a good idea. I often feel pressured to come up with something and am frustrated because I know it is not my best work. But I guess that is part of the benefit of a 100 days… Continue reading Day 21 – Fence
Day 20 – Butterfly
Yesterday I went to the county fair. I have to say, I was very disappointed in not finding many baby animals to photograph, though I understand it was hot and the animals were probably in a cooler place. I did enjoy the butterfly tent though it was very, very hot in there and the number… Continue reading Day 20 – Butterfly
Day 19 – Pears
One of the principle crops in my home area is pears. I was out driving through the orchards near where my new house is going up yesterday and grabbed a couple of shots of pears growing on the trees. Then I got creative this morning and added a texture from one of the French Kiss… Continue reading Day 19 – Pears
Day 18 – Berries
Artfully arranged berries at the Farmer’s market always make for a compelling image. Diagonal lines will always help your composition. For the record this was shot at yesterday’s market, not a continuation from last week. I did my usual tricks in Color Efex Pro…. detail extractor, brilliance/warmth/ and darken/lighten center.
Day – 17 Tree with glass block windows
Here’s another entry in the downtown Ashland architectural detail project. One of the beauties of this project is that there are buildings from all eras downtown. Though much of downtown was built in the 19th century, this building has the art deco look of the 1930s. In post processing I had to do some perspective… Continue reading Day – 17 Tree with glass block windows
Day 16 – Lavender in Chest
This weekend was lavender festival all over Oregon. I took my Mom out to the Applegate Valley where we took in four lavender farms before we got too tired and hungry to continue. This particular farm had an antique store as well so I managed to capture the best of both worlds. The minute I… Continue reading Day 16 – Lavender in Chest
Day 15 – Cute Baby
Well, I’m not much of a people photographer but one of the reasons to be home again is to keep up with the great nieces and nephews. Yesterday was this girl’s big sister’s 4th birthday. But this one won the cuteness prize. The amazing thing about this picture is it was shot at 12800 ISO. … Continue reading Day 15 – Cute Baby
Day 14 – Retro Lawn Chairs
I’ve been eying these chairs in my parents backyard for awhile now. Actually there was just one when I got here but apparently my brother decided to group them all together for better garden gazing. I left them just as I found them. Compositionally, If was going to arrange it I think I would pull… Continue reading Day 14 – Retro Lawn Chairs
